Sheaf on joining Cheltenham Town

29 July 2019

New Cheltenham Town arrival Max Sheaf has received some useful advice from a former Robins midfielder following his loan move to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

The 19-year-old has agreed a six month transfer to Cheltenham from Championship outfit Hull City.

Grant McCann, who is his boss at Hull and who made over 150 appearances in a Robins shirt before transferring to Barnsley, has already had a word with Michael Duff's newest recruit.

"He just said take the opportunity, don't take it for granted, obviously you're going to have to work hard," Sheaf said on McCann's advice to him. "He said to carry on working hard, doing what I'm doing, and make the most of it really."

Sheaf arrives at the Jonny-Rocks less than a week until the first League Two game of the season at Leyton Orient on Saturday for what is another key opportunity in his development as a young player.

He added: "I know it's not going to be me just walking into the team. I've got to work hard for it and I'm full prepared for that. It's definitely a great experience for me and as long as I take my chance it could be massive.

"All of the lads welcomed me in so well. They're all great lads and the staff were great. I couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome."
