Reaction: Varney on Leicester City

21 July 2019

After finding the back of the net, Luke Varney was pleased with his Robins teams work against Premier League opponents in the first home pre-season friendly at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

The forward opened the scoring in the first half against Leicester City on a good afternoon of football against top flight opposition.

Jamie Vardy and Marc Albrighton both struck in the second half to ensure Leicester picked up the win, but Varney felt there were some pleasing signs that reflected on the work that has been put into preparing for the season.

"It was a different type of game compared to the first two games we've had," Varney said. "There was a lot of concentration today, and what the gaffer has tried to implement in the last couple of weeks in pre-season really showed off today.

"There is a real feeling of togetherness, especially with a couple of new lads. It's good to see.

"There's a slight tweak in formation and we'll go back Monday and look at it and I'm sure we'll be pleased with how it's ended up really."

The experienced striker will be aiming to lead the line again on Tuesday when Shrewsbury Town visit the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.
