Reaction: Broom on Shrewsbury Town

24 July 2019

After Tuesday night's friendly against Shrewsbury Town, Cheltenham midfielder Ryan Broom is pleased with getting fitness levels up before the first game of the season.

The midfielder played 72 of the 90 minutes against a strong Shrewsbury side which saw The Robins battle hard to a 2-2 draw after a Tahvon Campbell brace.

Cheltenham did trail however as Shaun Whalley opened the scoring for Shrewsbury before Campbell then scored a brace to gain the lead for the Robins.

Yet Abo Eisa scored late in the 79th minute to hold Cheltenham to a draw. Broom reflected on the positives however after two games in quick succession.

"We had a Saturday game and then a Tuesday game so it's a quick turnaround so it's good to get the fitness in," he said after the match.

"They were fairly strong tonight so it was a good run out. A draw isn't a bad result and most of the lads got through it with no injuries.”

Cheltenham will hope to continue to improve in their preparation ahead of their next fixture against Burnley under-23s at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium on Saturday at 3pm. Tickets for that game are available to buy on the day and online here.
