Robins swoop to add third January signing

15 January 2019

Cheltenham Town have secured their third January arrival with the loan signing of defender Charlie Raglan.

Centre back Raglan moves to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium on an agreement until the end of the season from Sky Bet League One side Oxford United.

The 25-year-old boosts Michael Duff’s defensive options just a week after appearing for his parent club against the Robins in the Checkatrade Trophy third round.

Raglan can name Port Vale and Chesterfield among his former clubs. He has also featured in non-league for Hinckley United, Nantwich Town and FC United of Manchester.

Having grown up in Tenerife his football education came in the Canary Islands before returning to England to sign for Port Vale where he was sent out on loan to Hinckley to gain playing experience.

That move turned into a permanent one and between 2012 and 2014 he worked hard via spells with Hinckley, Nantwich and FC United to return to the Football League with then League One Chesterfield in April 2014.

He made over 50 appearances for the Spireites at League One level before a loan move to Oxford in the same division whom he would eventually join permanently.

Last season he spent a chunk of the campaign on loan in League Two back at the club that let him go as a young professional, Port Vale, where he played for the Valiants in their 5-1 loss to Cheltenham in February 2018.

Having trained with his new teammates for the first time today, Raglan commented on his move to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium saying: “Once I knew there was a bit of interest I was keen to come, and having spoken to the manager it made it a good prospect for me. I'm looking forward to getting started.

"I'm confident if I get the opportunity. I want to play regularly and do well for the team and if I'm doing well hopefully the team is doing well.

"It's all about Cheltenham going on a good run again in the League."

Raglan’s player sponsorship is available for the remainder of the season. Contact Commercial Manager John Finnigan on 01242 573558 to enquire into becoming his sponsor.

Check out an exclusive first interview with Raglan later today here on the club website.
