Varney wins Autovillage Player of the Month for January

7 February 2019

Robins forward Luke Varney has been voted as the Autovillage Player of the Month for January as chosen by 60% of fans in our social media poll.

Every month supporters are given the opportunity to vote online via a poll for which player has impressed them the most from the previous month.

36-year-old Varney, who was manager Michael Duff's first signing, has enjoyed a brilliant start to 2019 with three goals in January.

The well-travelled forward is the Robins' current leading scorer so far this season with nine goals and is second to only Premier League striker Glenn Murray in goals scored by players over the age of 35 in the top four tiers of English Football.

Varney won the award with 60% of the vote ahead of teammates Chris Hussey, Jacob Maddox and Kevin Dawson.

His first goal came against Yeovil Town on New Year's Day, before finishing off a great passing move against Tranmere Rovers - ending the month as he started it with a spectacular overhead kick in the comeback victory over Macclesfield Town.

Another goal against Yeovil at the start of February proved to be the match-winner and Varney won Man of the Match in the 1-0 triumph over the Glovers, he is therefore the latest player to recieve a Nandos Cheltenham sharing platter voucher.

Jacqueline Pyke was our lucky random winner of a voucher at the Yeovil match, to be in with a chance of winning in future, buy your tickets to our remaining home matches in advance by clicking here.
