Newport fixture moved to Friday night

27 February 2019

Following requests from police and safety authorities, the fixture between Newport County AFC and Cheltenham Town FC, which had been scheduled for 3pm on Saturday 16 March, will now take place at 7.45pm on Friday 15 March.

The Six Nations fixture between Wales and Ireland at 2.45pm on Saturday 16 March, is a potential Grand Slam and Championship decider, and would have clashed with the original scheduled Newport County v Cheltenham Town kick-off time. It would have placed additional pressure on stewarding, policing and travel.

Both clubs appreciate the short notice for moving the kick-off time for this fixture, and understand that some supporters may be inconvenienced by this late decision. However, we hope that this will enable more supporters to enjoy the climax to the Six Nations Championship as well as following their teams in this exciting SkyBet League Two clash safely and with minimal travel disruption.

It will still be possible for supporters to travel to and from the game by train on Friday night, so those who have already booked travel should contact their train company to see if the tickets can be transferred.
