Ross Thorpe has been appointed as the new Head of Academy Coaching at Cheltenham Town.

He joins the club from Solihull Moors where he has been working as a scout for the National League leaders.

His new role will see him take the lead in developing the coaches in the academy set-up at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium in line with the club’s philosophy and culture to help support academy performance.

He replaces Aaron Downes in the position who left the club in November 2018 to join Torquay United as assistant manager and will work across the foundation and professional development phase of the academy system.

Thorpe previously worked as assistant manager at Chester in their 2017-18 National League campaign.

He has also had stints as Head Women’s Football Coach at Nottingham Trent University and as assistant manager of Women’s Super League outfit Birmingham City Ladies.
