Loan watch: Handley catches the eye

25 February 2019

Under-18s defender Tom Handley was named man-of-the-match for Lydney Town on Saturday in their Hellenic Premier Division defeat to Brackley Town Saints.

The second year scholar, who scored in the reserves victory over Forest Green last week, couldn’t prevent Lydney from slipping to a 2-1 loss against the title chasing Saints.

Both Liam McAlinden and Josh Debayo played no minutes for their loan sides. McAlinden missed Kidderminster’s 3-3 draw at Blyth Spartans due to illness and Josh Debayo was an unused substitute in Dover Athletic’s 1-0 National League loss at Maidenhead United.

Elsewhere, Tom Smith came on as a substitute in the final ten minutes of Bath City’s 2-0 home win over Slough Town at Twerton Park.

Many of the under-18s continue their experience while out on loan. Will Dawes, another who scored in last week’s reserve team win, started in Tuffley Rovers 2-1 away defeat at Wantage Town, and claimed an assist for the Tuffley goal.

Grant Horton played the full 90 minutes for Worcester City in their Total Motion Midland Football League Premier Division home loss to Long Eaton United, while Freddie Lapworth was an unused substitute in Gloucester City’s National League South stalemate with Chelmsford City.

Ioan Richards and Archie Brennan both started for Slimbridge in their Evo-Stik Southern League South Division One home defeat to Street at Thornhill Park.

Forward Fin Clift missed Malvern Town’s 2-0 West Midlands Regional League victory through illness.

Meanwhile on Saturday morning the under-18s narrowly lost to Bristol Rovers. They conceded a 93rd minute goal to lose 2-1 to the young Pirates. Under-16s striker Callum Ebanks scored the Robins goal.
