Young defender heads out on work experience

16 August 2019

Second year scholar Grant Horton has joined Southern Premier Central side Bromsgrove Sporting on a work experience loan.

The 17-year-old centre back, who impressed in a lengthy loan spell at Worcester City last season, will now link up at the Victoria Ground and could make his debut this weekend when Bromsgrove travel to Coalville Town.

Horton appeared with the first team during pre-season, featuring in matches against Shrewsbury Town, Burnley under-23s, Hereford and Stratford Town.

Under-18s manager Pete Haynes said: "It is a great opportunity for Grant to go and experience step three football, especially as a 17-year-old second year scholar.

"As part of our programme to stretch players and expose them to as many different environments as possible, it's a really great opportunity for him to continue his development in the men's game.

"As part of our academy model we expose all of our players as early as we can to older age group games and different types of games. In the coming weeks there will be more scholars who will be going out on work experience to men's club, as we try to prepare them for levels of football they'll be going into whether that will be at Cheltenham Town, non-league football or other professional clubs.

"Thank you to Bromsgrove for giving Grant the opportunity. It's great that the players have got the opportunities from these men's clubs and it's then down to them to grasp the opportunity and show their capabilities at that level to enhance their development even further."

The Bromsgrove squad includes two former Cheltenham players. Former midfielders Josh Quaynor and Shaquille McDonald are both part of the Rouslers squad.
