Reaction: Greaves on Bristol Rovers

14 August 2019

Jacob Greaves senior career debut and first appearance in a Cheltenham Town shirt garnered praise from his manager after Tuesday's Carabao Cup round one defeat at Bristol Rovers.

The teenage defender, who joined last week on a six-month loan from Hull City, started in the Robins back three against League One Rovers.

He put in a good first showing at the Memorial Stadium as he looks to earn important game time from his loan spell away from Hull in the Championship where he has just signed a new three-year deal.

Son of former Hull midfielder Mark, he was pleased with how he performed in Tuesday's game against a tough opponent in the form of a side playing the league above the Robins.

"I knew it was going to be a tough game going into the cup," he said. "Obviously we're playing a League One side who were decent to be fair on the night.

"I think we weren't at our best tonight which helped them a lot but I'm delighted to make my debut.

"I knew it was going to be tough but I thought I did quite well. I could have done a little bit more to help the team but I think on a personal level I thought I did well. Hopefully we learn from this and go again on Saturday."

The young defender could be in line to make his Football League first appearance on Saturday when the Robins head up the M5 and M6 to Morecambe.
