Varney commits his future to Cheltenham Town

5 April 2019

Cheltenham Town Football Club are delighted to announce that Luke Varney has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at the club until the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

The front man has been in fantastic form since moving to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium in September 2018, scoring 14 times to help push the club up the League Two table.

His experience has played a key role in helping Michael Duff's side this season and he has now committed to another campaign at the club.

After agreeing his new deal Varney said: "It didn't take long. Once the negotiations started it was an easy decision.

"With the group of lads we've got and the mentality that we've got, especially at home, and winning the away game on Saturday is going to help we are all enjoying ourselves now. It is a good group to be a part of and I wanted to extend my stay for sure."

Michael Duff added: "He has been fantastic for me since he's been at the club on and off the pitch. Its been a good fit for both of us. He is happy and enjoying his football and that's shown in the goals he's scored that have helped us progress as a football club."

Varney will be aiming to register his 15th goal of the season on Saturday when Exeter City are the visitors to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium. Tickets are on sale for the game online here and on the turnstiles for the match which kicks off at 3pm.

Keep an eye out on the club website and social media channels for an interview with Varney coming up soon.
