Reaction: Varney on Morecambe

23 April 2019

Luke Varney spoke post-match to the media following Cheltenham's 4-0 loss at Morecambe on Easter Monday.

The experienced forward was a part of the Robins side that were well beaten by the Shrimps at the Globe Arena, in a showing he considered to be unacceptable bearing in mind what the team are looking to achieve next season.

"We got in at half time thinking we were quite lucky to be 0-0," Varney said. "Scotty [Flinders] did well to save the penalty and we needed a reaction.

"Goals change games and we gave away some really sloppy goals - a couple of set pieces, a couple of straight balls - we'll debrief that in the week and I'm sure there will be a lot of sessions to work on because we can't be doing that if we've spoken about how we want to progress next season - that's not the way to do it today."

The Robins final home game of the season takes place at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium on Saturday against Swindon Town. Kick-off is at 3pm.

Tickets are available to buy online here or from the ticket office on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday ahead of the game.
