News: Tom Smith makes loan move to Bath City

20 September 2018

Cheltenham Town midfielder Tom Smith has joined Bath City on loan until January.

The 20-year old former Swindon Town player will link up with the Romans, who are managed by ex-Cheltenham Town player Jerry Gill, in time for their FA Cup second qualifying round match against Banbury United on Saturday.

Tom joined Cheltenham Town during the summer having impressed during a loan spell at Bath City from Swindon Town last season and has so far made one substitute appearance for the first team, in the Carabao Cup against Colchester United last month.

“This is a great opportunity for Tom to get some first team football,” said Cheltenham Town manager Michael Duff.

“He is going to a club I know well and a manager I know well so we will keep a close eye on his progress until January.”

“We have a large squad at the moment so we will be looking for one or two other players to go out on loan in the next couple of weeks.”

Since the closure of the transfer window on 31 August players cannot be loaned to EFL clubs but they can still join clubs in the National League.

Bath City play in National League South alongside Gloucester City and Weston-Super-Mare, where Cheltenham Town defender Matt Bower is currently on loan.
