Match pack: Exeter City

21 September 2018

Cheltenham Town travel to Exeter City this weekend for Michael Duff's first away game as Robins boss.

Saturday, April 14, 2014 was a line-in-the-sand moment for matches between the Grecians and the Robins at St James Park.

On that day four years ago, the two sides drew 1-1 thanks to Byron Harrison's 27th minute goal to share the points for the only time in eight matches between the pair in Devon, and 16 in total.

Prior to that, the Robins had won the previous nine league encounters, home and away, stretching back to Boxing Day in 1999.

But the draw saw a turnaround in form with City winning all of the six games since including last term's 2-1 victory, despite Carl Winchester's opener.

Exeter are flying high in second position in League Two with five successes from their first eight games and will present stiff opposition for Duff for his first trip as manager.

But his side have won the last two matches on the road at Cambridge United and Northampton Town and will travel with some confidence after a marked improvement in performances.

The Grecians have won two and drawn one of their four matches on home turf, beating Notts County 5-1 last time out as well as dumping Ipswich Town out of the Carabao Cup on penalties. They have banged in 15 goals in the process.

They're managed by former centre half Matt Taylor, who made 33 appearances for the Robins in the 2014/15 campaign. He replaced long serving boss Paul Tisdale after 12 years at the helm, making a seemingly smooth transition to managerial life.
