Captain Johnny Mullins is relishing the atmosphere and unpredictability that derby matches bring as Cheltenham Town make the short trip to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.
It will be the third Football League meeting between the two teams, with the Robins still looking for a first win in 20 years against their Gloucestershire neighbours.
But experienced centre-back Mullins believes that form means little in derby matches – especially when a big away crowd is travelling down – something that he hopes will make a difference at the weekend.
“We know that there will be a good atmosphere and our fans will travel in numbers and being a local derby it’s a game that we really want to go and win, there’s no denying that,” said Mullins.
“I’m an Arsenal fan and for many years they have been a top team, but the derby games never followed form.
“It’s a game against a team doing well, they obviously lost their first match at the weekend but it’s all about us.
“We know what we are working hard to do and achieve, we just need to put those steps in place to get on a run of consistency.”
The skipper continued: “There’s a really good feeling in the camp at the minute, we’ve had a good couple of weeks since the MK Dons game.
“We’ve had it bit of time to lay down a few things that we want to achieve going forward and the feeling is positive.
“We’re really looking forward to the game, so we can put all of that into action.”
Tickets and travel
You can still join us in Nailsworth for the closest away trip of the season! Covered seating and standing tickets have now sold out for this fixture but plenty of uncovered standing tickets remain on sale up until kick-off.
This match is NO LONGER ALL TICKET for away fans and tickets will be available for travelling supporters at the New Lawn on the day.
Cheltenham fans can purchase their tickets from the New Lawn ticket office but please do allow plenty of time as it is expected to be busy on the day.
