The shortlist for the Player of the Month award for October includes Michael Duff’s first signing Luke Varney, who netted twice on his full debut against Morecambe in a 2-2 draw at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

Left-back Chris Hussey battled back to fitness and stood out as a late substitute against the Shrimps, before impressing at Forest Green Rovers in the 1-1 stalemate at the New Lawn.

The 29-year-old was then awarded Man of the Match in the 2-0 home defeat to Stevenage in the Robins’ last Sky Bet League Two game of the month.

Fellow defender Will Boyle also starred in October, particularly during the draw with Forest Green in Nailsworth with a series of important blocks and tackles.

The towering centre-back also scored his second goal of the season in a 6-2 Checkatrade Trophy thrashing of Arsenal Under-21s, shortly adding his third in the first match of November against Mansfield Town on Saturday.

Chelsea loanee Jacob Maddox was a constant threat against Forest Green and was a worthy Man of the Match winner after scoring his first two goals for Cheltenham against the young Gunners – also capping off his 20th birthday with the same award on Saturday.
