Preview: Duff looks ahead to cup replay

19 November 2018

Michael Duff has praised his Cheltenham Town side for the quality of their performance on Saturday and is expecting the focus to now be on delivering a winning performance in Tuesday’s Emirates FA Cup first round replay against Ebbsfleet United.

The Robins welcome the National League outfit to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium on Tuesday evening after the first meeting between the two sides ended in a goalless draw.

Speaking to the media on Monday morning at the Energy Check Training Ground, Duff said: “We know we have to get through the first round. We are not in the second round at all. It’ll be the same preparations as always and we are expecting a tough game.

“We will be preparing properly and will be expecting to deliver a performance to win the game.”

Looking back on Saturday’s excellent 3-0 win at Notts County he added: “I said a few weeks ago you need seven, eight or nine players to turn up, and they did – hence the reason we won the game.

“There is no getting away from the fact that the change of shape has helped. Scott Flinders has hardly made a save in the last three games which is pleasing.

“The reason why we had to change the shape was because we weren’t doing well with the ball. We were alright without the ball, but we didn’t do enough with the ball. They’ve produced some quality in the top end of the pitch and the centre forwards scoring goals is always perfect.

“It’s five unbeaten but only two of them have been in the league. We know that. We’re not trying to mask anything – we are where we are.”
