Preview: Crewe V Robins

5 May 2018

Cheltenham Town bring the curtain down on the Sky Bet League Two season on Saturday when the Robins travel to Gresty Road to face Crewe Alexandra (kick-off 3pm).

Gary Johnson’s men will be aiming to finish the campaign on a positive note after heavy defeat to Coventry City last time out.

Crewe – who are one place and two points better off than the Robins in 16th spot – enjoyed a 2-1 win over Crawley last weekend with goals from Perry Ng and Harry Pickering.

When the two sides met earlier this season at the LCI Rail Stadium it was Cheltenham who emerged 1-0 winners thanks to a goal from Jamie Grimes.

The Opposition:

Crewe boss David Artell believes there is still much more to come from his side – after an encouraging end to the season.

Artell praised his players for their professional display after they won 2-1 at Crawley last Saturday.

Crewe have pulled away from relegation troubles to sit safely in 16th spot in Sky Bet League Two – but Artell still wants a home show when the Robins come to town.

"There is still more to come, we know that, but we have shown we are a good team and we have to make sure we show the home fans against Cheltenham,” he said.

"We still have three points to play for, we want to finish higher than we did last season with more points."

Team News:

Cheltenham: Manager Gary Johnson will assess the fitness of Kevin Dawson, Brian Graham, Taylor Moore and Jordon Forster after they missed the home clash with Coventry. Goalkeeper Scott Flinders is ruled through hip surgery so Rhys Lovett is expected to start in goal.

Crewe Alexandra: Crewe will check on the fitness of experienced striker Chris Dagnall. He missed the win at Crawley due to illness so Shaun Miller was recalled. James Jones' recent hamstring problem will continue to be monitored. Charlie Kirk, Chris Porter and Eddie Nolan are among those players vying for recalls.

The man in the middle:

Referee Michael Salisbury will take charge of the final league clash of the season at Gresty Road. He has taken charge of 37 games this season, giving out 96 yellow cards and seven red cards. His assistants are Paul Thompson, Mark Cunliffe and fourth official Andy Hendley.
