Gaffer delighted to land full-back Hussey

29 May 2018

Manager Gary Johnson was delighted to sign up defender Chris Hussey – revealing he is a long-term admirer of the left back.

Hussey has put pen to paper on a two-year deal to move to the LCI Rail Stadium.

Johnson said: “We’re delighted that Chris will join us next season. He is a player that I have always had an interest in and now we have taken the opportunity to bring him to Cheltenham Town.

“Chris is probably the best crosser of a ball in this division, has great delivery and is quick, mobile and good defender. He has everything we need in a left-sided defender.

“He is also exactly the kind of character we need in the dressing room. Nobody could be a substitute for Pelly, but Chris has an infectious personality alongside his footballing brain and experience.”

Hussey will miss the first four games of the new Sky Bet League Two season as he serves a suspension. However, Johnson reiterated the signing was a hugely positive one for the club in the long-term.

“Unfortunately Chris will miss the first four games of the season due to a disputed misdemeanor,” he said.

“However, we have signed Chris for two years and we have every faith that he will feature in the majority of those games. It is just a matter of managing the situation in the early stages of the season.”
