Gaffer targets pedigree and experience to boost squad

4 May 2018

Manager Gary Johnson has targeted bringing in players with 'pedigree' and 'experience' as he looks to boost his playing squad ahead of next season.

The Robins agreed a deal to bring in winger Alex Addai on Friday as summer recruitment begins.

And after Addai signed on the dotted line, the gaffer revealed his latest thoughts on the make-up of his playing resources for the 2018/19 campaign.

"We've been working very hard," said Johnson. "The last couple of weeks of the season we have been busy and we are at the moment talking to players.

"We’re going to need a bit of a turnaround in our squad, as we are going to have lost two or three players and we are going to need to replace them as quickly as possible.

"I have got discussions all this week with players, a couple that I have worked with before at a higher level, and I am hoping to bring them to the club and convince them that this is the place to be.

"What we have got to find is people with a bit of pedigree, people who have been there and done it, a bit more experience of this division.

"Somebody like Alex (Addai) has had a good grounding as far as his youth career is concerned with Tottenham and Blackpool,” added Johnson.

"But we need people with a little bit of experience to go with Alex and the young players we have. It will help develop the younger lads.”
