Downes looks to end season on positive note

3 May 2018

Coach Aaron Downes admits the Robins are determined to try and finish the season on a positive note when they travel to Crewe Alexandra in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Downes revealed the frustration and disappointment within the squad at the manner of the recent home defeat to Coventry last time out.

But he insisted the focus was now on the trip to Gresty Road and looking to put a smile on the face of the travelling faithful.

“It was disappointing on Saturday and we were all frustrated,” said Downes. “You have to give Coventry credit as they were very good, but from our point of view it was a disappointing performance.

“It’s frustrating that was the last home game because we didn’t want to send the fans away to the summer on that sour note, so that was frustrating and disappointing.

“The bonus for us as players is that we have another game to go and rectify it and right a few wrongs and finish the season positively.

“We want to go into the summer feeling positive so we’ll try and put the Coventry result to bed.

“At the start of the season we were doing well at home and our away performances needed improving,” he added.

“We went away and worked on that and got some really good away results, but unfortunately the home form has suffered.

“We are now looking to go to Crewe and give a good account of ourselves as we always try to.

“It’s the last away game and I am sure the fancy dress costumes will be in full flow, so hopefully we can send them away happy into the summer and give the away fans, who spend so much time on the road and money too that we really appreciate, something to cheer about.”
