Preview: Crawley Town V Robins

23 March 2018

Cheltenham Town make the long trip to Sussex to face Crawley Town at the Checkatrade.com Stadium in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

The Robins are undefeated in four league games, after a 1-1 draw with Chesterfield last weekend, and emphatically defeated Swindon Town 3-0 in the club’s last away outing.

Crawley still have play-off hopes, despite a 3-2 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers in midweek, and are currently in 12th spot in the division, eight points ahead of Gary Johnson’s men.

When then teams met earlier in the season the game ended 1-0 at the LCI Rail Stadium as Mo Eisa grabbed the winner.

The Opposition:

Crawley Manager Harry Kewell has urged his players to keep playing the right way when they face Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

The Red Devils suffered a midweek defeat to Wycombe Wanderers but Kewell was pleased with the manner in which his team performed.

“I was not disappointed with the way my players played. We played the right way. If that’s the way Wycombe want to play that’s fair enough, congratulations to them,” he said afterwards.

"Long ball and hope. It wasn’t as if they scored from open play. They made the referee make decisions and Jacobson has a wonderful delivery and with that came three goals. "But again, rewatch the goals, there was interference with pulling shirts on my players."

Kewell has also praised striker Karlan Ahearne-Grant, who has taken League Two by storm since moving on loan from Charlton, having notched his seventh goal in eight games on Wednesday night.

“He's a wonderful talent. I think he just wants to play football. There's a stigma in League Two football, to play long. But it's not really," said the Australian.

"Players only follow manager's orders. When you get a team who wants to play football, who forces the play, they can play it.

"Karlan has come in and given my team a big boost, I'm not going to lie. He's given them confidence and he's given other players confidence. He wants to come and play the game properly."

Team News:

Cheltenham team news: Manager Gary Johnson will be without Joe Morrell and Joe Rodon who are away with Wales Under-21s. Jordon Forster returned in reserve team in the week as he pushes for a first team recall.

Crawley team news: The Red Devils are without Dutch striker Thomas Verheydt, who is still recovering from a knee problem. Josh Yorwerth will be available following suspension and Jordan Roberts is fit. Crawley will be still be without Josh Doherty, who is out after surgery on his hand, and Mark Connolly, who serves a one-match ban for his dismissal against Wycombe.

The man in the middle:

Referee Chris Sarginson – who has taken charge of 36 games this season and handed out 118 yellow cards and five red cards - will take charge of the league clash at the Checkatrade.com Stadium. He has already officiated the Robins twice season, taking charge of the 2-0 defeat to Yeovil and 1-0 win over Lincoln City on home soil. He will be assisted by Steve Brown, Greg Read and fourth official Dean Treleaven.
