Manager Gary Johnson was pleased with a number of 'positive performances' as Cheltenham Town played a behind closed doors training match with Bristol City on Tuesday morning.

Johnson's squad were without a fixture after the scheduled Central League encounter away at Southend was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

However, a number of players were still able to gain some valuable game time after a training game was arranged in Bristol.

“As the game with Southend was postponed we managed to arrange a training game with Bristol City late in the day behind closed doors, as they also needed a fixture with some players currently suspended," said Johnson.

“It was a good opportunity for some of the lads to get some game time in their legs, as we have kept the same team in the league in recent games.

“Bristol City picked a very strong side with a number of first team players so it was a real test for us.

“They went 3-0 up quickly before we showed real character to get it back to 4-3 and had a few late chances to level it up. It was important to get a game in after Southend was postponed.

“There were a number of positive performances and it was a very good exercise for us ahead of the Chesterfield fixture this weekend."
