Dawson keen to build on positive away days

22 March 2018

Midfielder Kevin Dawson wants Cheltenham Town will build on recent away displays when they hit the road to face Crawley Town in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

The Robins produced an impressive 3-0 win over Swindon last time out away from the LCI Rail Stadium and before that narrowly missed out on stunning high flying Luton Town.

Dawson believes the manner of those performances should give his team-mates confidence ahead of the game at the Chekcatrade.com Stadium.

"We had a feeling that was coming," said Dawson, looking back at the Swindon win.

"We had played Luton, who were top of the table at the time, and had only conceded late on. But our form had been good leading into it so we knew a big performance was coming.

"I wouldn't say it came as a surprise within the group. It may have been a surprise outside. But there was a feeling within that it had been coming so now we dust down and go again.

"Crawley were absolutely flying in that spell after Christmas and although they lost last night we have heard they played well," he added.

"It will be a good game and their manager (Harry Kewell) has got them playing better."

Dawson has also praised the recent form of fellow midfielder Nigel Atangana - especially after his man-of-the-match showing against Chesterfield.

"Nigel has shown his best form this season recently and I thought he was fantastic against Chesterfield," said Dawson.

"He broke up play well and drove forward, which is what we have been waiting for him to  do. He felt comfortable and looked comfortable and it's a case of him now doing what he knows he can do.

"He helps release the other creative players to go forward and do what they can do. The three in midfield has been a strong point for us in recent games."

On his own form, Dawson added: "The gaffer got into me before the last game and asked if there was any chance I could score a goal. It's definitely something I am looking to do.

"The last few months we have changed the team around, but we are more settled now and hopefully the goals will come again. But, as long as the results are coming, then I will be happy."
