NEW SIGNING: Sean Long

26 June 2018

Cheltenham Town have today bolstered the club's defensive ranks with the signing of full back Sean Long from Lincoln City.

Long, 23, moves to the Robins on a two-year deal, subject to a medical, and becomes Cheltenham's eighth new signing ahead of the new Sky Bet League Two campaign.

The Dublin-born defender joins Johnny Mullins, Ben Tozer, Chris Hussey, Conor Thomas, Ryan Broom, Tom Smith and Alex Addai as a new recruit at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

Long spent last season at Lincoln making 26 appearances in all competitions for the Imps.

Manager Gary Johnson said: "We’re delighted to sign Sean as he is someone who was on our radar when he was at Reading.

“As a young player he was taken to Braintree by Danny Cowley and then onto Lincoln City where he has progressed.

“We feel Sean is a strong and committed right back who defends well so we are naturally very pleased to have acquired him ahead of the new season.”

Long started his career in England at Reading, after joining from Irish club side Cherry Orchard, and made his professional debut in August 2014.

He enjoyed loan spells at Luton Town, Cambridge United and Braintree Town before making a permanent move to Lincoln in 2017.

Long, who has represented the Republic of Ireland from Under-16 up to Under-21 level, also appeared in the EFL Trophy final win over Shrewsbury at Wembley Stadium in April.
