FIXTURES: Gaffer targets strong start at home

21 June 2018

Manager Gary Johnson has called on the Cheltenham Town faithful to pack out the Jonny-Rocks Stadium for the big league opener with Crawley Town as he targets a strong start to the new campaign.

The Robins will entertain Harry Kewell’s men on Saturday, August 4 – looking to replicate the club’s 1-0 win over the Red Devils last season on home soil.

And Johnson is eager for his new-look squad to hit the ground running after the fixtures were confirmed today.

“It’s great news that we start the season on home soil,” he said “I’m sure the fans will be excited and I hope that they come in their numbers to see the new-look team and we all pull together from day one.

“A good start is always important, but at this moment we won’t know who the top teams and bottom teams are so it’s vital we give every team respect and prepare for a big challenge from the very start.

“It’s always great to see the fixture list, it gets the excitement flowing, and I’m sure our fans will be looking forward to that opening day fixture against Crawley.

“There are a number of big fixtures to look forward to in the season, including the return of Mark Yates to Whaddon Road with newly promoted Macclesfield Town, but our focus will purely be on Crawley and making a good start in front of our fans.”
