NEW SIGNING: Joshua Debayo

10 July 2018

Cheltenham Town have this evening completed the signing of exciting full back Joshua Debayo.

Debayo, 21, joins the Robins on a two-year contract after leaving Leicester City at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

The Nigerian defender becomes Cheltenham's ninth new signing ahead of the new Sky Bet League Two campaign that kicks off next month.

Debayo started his career in London with Fulham and Chelsea before moving to Southampton in 2013.

The defender later joined Leicester City and spent two seasons playing in the Under-23 set-up at the Foxes.

Manager Gary Johnson said: "We’re delighted to sign Josh, he gives us that athleticism in the left back position and gives us competition too. We needed another left footer.

“He has power and pace, as anyone would have seen in our pre-season game with Bristol City, and is still young enough to learn more.

"He started at Fulham, went to Chelsea and Southampton too. Joshua was a rated a very good prospect at those clubs and has the ability.

“He got injured at Leicester which put him back a little bit, but we’ve tracked him since his Fulham days and we know he is going to look the part in that left back role.”
