Dawson hands Robins fitness boost with return

24 July 2018

Midfielder Kevin Dawson handed Cheltenham Town a playing boost as he made a return to action in the pre-season fixture at Weston-super-Mare.

Cheltenham lost out 4-1 on the coast on Tuesday evening - with Fin Clift grabbing a second half goal for a youthful Robins side.

And Gary Johnson was there to watch Irishman Dawson feature for 45 minutes at the Woodspring Stadium as he formulates his plans ahead of the new Sky Bet League Two season.

"It was really good to see Kev back," said coach Aaron Downes after the game.

"We had planned to play him for 30 minutes from the start, but he was feeling really well and looking good so we kept him out there.

"He felt like he could stay out and get to half-time. He did well and it was important for him to get 45 minutes under his belt today.

"Hopefully he pulls up well tomorrow (Wednesday) and then he is back in training and pushing for the start of the season."
