New Signing: Joe Rodon

30 January 2018

Cheltenham Town have today completed the loan signing of defender Joe Rodon from Premier League side Swansea City.

Highly-rated Rodon, who has made four appearances in the Checkatrade Trophy this season, including a win at the LCI Rail Stadium when he captained Swansea U21s, has agreed terms to move to the Robins with immediate effect.

The talented 20-year-old becomes the fifth new addition during the January transfer window, joining Sanmi Odelusi, Emmanuel Onariase, Elijah Adebayo and Ilias Chatzitheodoridis at the club.

Manager Gary Johnson said: “Obviously we’re very pleased to have secured the services of Joe.

“We have been keeping an eye on him for some time and he is undoubtedly a quality player.

“Swansea have very high hopes for him and we’ve got the timing just right when they felt it was time for Joe to go out on loan and get some football and experience.

“Joe goes straight into the squad to prepare for the away game with Grimsby and we look forward to seeing him in action.”

Rodon has been part of Swansea City’s Academy set-up since he was eight and was part of the Under-19s FAW Youth Cup-winning squad of 2014/15.

The centre-back joined the first-team squad on the Swans pre-season tour of America ahead of the 2016/17 season and was a key performer for the Under-23s Premier League 2 (Division 2) league and cup double campaign last year.

The Swansea-born ace has also represented Wales at Under-21 level and was called up to train with the senior team last season.
