Preview: Mansfield V Cheltenham

19 January 2018

Cheltenham Town head to the One Call Stadium to face Mansfield Town on Saturday in Sky Bet League Two (kick-off 3pm).

Gary Johnson’s men will be looking to use the game to bounce back from a 2-0 home defeat to Accrington Stanley last time out at the LCI Rail Stadium.

Mansfield are six games unbeaten in the league and will be hoping to make it seven against Cheltenham.

Steve Evans' men lost for only the second time in 21 matches against Cardiff City in midweek, but the Robins did win 3-0 when the two teams met earlier this season.

The sides meet again at Field Mill on Saturday, with Mansfield seventh in the table and Cheltenham 16th.

The Opposition:

Steve Evans wants his Mansfield Town side to banish the memories of their performance at Cheltenham Town earlier in the season when they two sides meet again.

Second half goals from Brian Graham, Joe Morrell and Dannny Wright secured a 3-0 win for the Robins on September 26.

“We have a score to settle with our performance, not with Cheltenham who I thought were terrific on the night,” he said.

“I thought their players passed and moved it around and Gary (Johnson) got a really good performance – probably one of their best I would think.

“We'll need to be at our best. Two weeks ago it was Colchester at home to Cheltenham and we're all thinking if Colchester win they'll bounce into the top three.

"But Cheltenham went there and won 4-1. That's how tough League Two is."

Team News:

Cheltenham team news: Manager Gary Johnson will give striker Sanmi Odelusi as long as possible to recover from the hamstring injury that saw him sit out the Accrington clash. Jordan Cranston, Jaanai Gordon and Jordon Forster remain long-term injury casualties.

Mansfield team news: Defender David Mirfin will miss the Robins' clash as he continues to recover from knee surgery, which has kept him out of action since last month. Striker Kane Hemmings has a strong chance of featuring.

The man in the middle:

Referee Darren Handley – who has taken charge of 27 games this season and handed out 85 yellow cards and three red cards - will take charge of the league clash at the One Call Stadium. He will be assisted by Richard Wild and David Benton. Michael D'Aguilar will be the fourth official.
