Preview: Cheltenham V Barnet

26 January 2018

Cheltenham Town are on home soil on Saturday when the Robins entertain Barnet at the LCI Rail Stadium in Sky Bet League Two (kick-off 3pm).

Gary Johnson’s men will be aiming to return to winning ways after the disappointment and drama of defeat in a five-goal thriller at Mansfield last weekend.

Barnet are currently bottom of the league with no win in six games, but they did secure a creditable draw with Lincoln last time out with Graham Westley now in charge at the Bees.

The teams met just prior to Christmas at The Hive Stadium with the Robins securing a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Kevin Dawson and Carl Winchester.

The Opposition:

Barnet boss Graham Westley is convinced the Bees have the quality to climb away from the foot of Sky Bet League Two.

"The best players have been missing for large chunks of the season and those boys are back," he said.

"There is some serious talent at this club and I know we will win matches. There is too much quality and too much of the right attitude here for us not to.

"I have got to change the formula and consistency of the players we have got.

"There is not a defence in this league that will want to play against John Akinde and Shaquile Coulthirst at their very best. They are as powerful a front two as exists."

Team News:

Cheltenham team news: Manager Gary Johnson has revealed defener Will Boyle (fracture) is available for selection but striker Sanmi Odelusi (hamstring) remains a doubt. Taylor Moore and Danny Wright sit out as they start three-match suspensions. Jordan Cranston, Jordon Forster and Jaanai Gordon are long-term injury absentees.

Barnet team news: Jamie Stephens (hamstring) is gradually making his way back to full fitness, participating in training sessions this week. Harry Taylor (metatarsal), Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro (knee) remain sidelined along with Elliott Johnson (knee) and Dave Tarpey (knee) are both out with long-term injuries.

The man in the middle:

Referee Lee Swabey – who has taken charge of 10 games this season and handed out 35 yellow cards and one red card - will take charge of the league clash at the LCI Rail Stadium. He will be assisted by Matt Eva, Ian Smedley and fourth official Kevin Johnson.
