Gaffer happy with transfer window additions

31 January 2018

Manager Gary Johnson declared himself happy with January transfer window business as the Robins added six players to the playing squad.

Midfielder Jake Andrews put pen to paper on a loan deal on Deadline Day - joining new signing Sanmi Odelusi and loanees Emmanuel Onariase, Elijah Adebayo, Ilias Chatzitheodoridis and Joe Rodon as January additions.

"I'm happy with what we’ve been able to do and the loans we’ve put in place,” said Johnson.

"Over the years I’ve taken on a number of young players, many on their first loan, who have done very well for me and gone on to bigger and better things.

"It's great to be part of their development and, crucially, for them to be a success and make a difference at a club. We have high hopes that the players we have brought in this month can make the impact we want.

"A large number of the deals in League Two at this time of year are loan deals and for young players,” he added.

"You see a number from the Premier League and EFL Championship going out on loan and that is the marketplace we are in.

“We’ve signed talented players on loan to add to the squad we have and ensure we have real competition across the board in the remaining 16 games.”

Despite the window shutting at 11pm, Johnson added that work in the market for new players was ongoing.

"We don't stop now," said Johnson. "At this time of year a number of free agents become available, as they are paid up after the window.

"If we find one that can add quality and be an important player for us for the next 18 months then we will, of course, act on it."
