Dawson targets repeat of Mansfield win

18 January 2018

Midfielder Kevin Dawson believes Cheltenham Town can use the performance over Mansfield Town earlier this season as inspiration when they two teams meet again this weekend.

The Robins produced a one of the best performances of the campaign when they defeated the Stags 3-0 on home soil in September.

And Irish ace Dawson is hoping for a repeat of that display when the sides face off at the One Call Stadium on Saturday.

“We had one of our best games of the season at home against them (Mansfield) so hopefully we can take that into the away game,” he said.

“Our consistency is what is letting us down so far this season, as well as costly mistakes. We just need to find that and then I feel we would do alright.

“We have a few young lads here who are learning the game, but we all need to do it, the senior players too.

“It’s doing the basics right. We are on top in games and then mistakes are killing the momentum.

“Against Accrington (Stanley) we have good chances and if we had taken them and gone in front or equalised it could have been a different game.

“It looks like a bad defeat, which it was, but on a different day it could have been very different.

“The first goal is massive, especially at this level, it changes games. Hopefully we can get the first on Saturday.

“It’s going to be a really tough game at Mansfield – we know that,” he added. “They are a good team, an experienced team, so we have got to do it right to get a result.”
