Morrell frustrated by Robins return

17 February 2018

Midfielder Joe Morrell admitted it had been a frustrating return to action for him as Cheltenham Town lost 2-0 to Wycombe Wanderers in Sky Bet League Two.

Two goals just before the break at the LCI Rail Stadium left the Robins with an uphill task.

Morrell conceded that collectively and as individuals the home side had not done enough.

But he urged the team to look to bounce back at league leaders Luton next weekend.

"It's not the return I wanted," said Morrell. "After the high of last week you want to come back and be involved with a win and another afternoon like that.

"It was a frustrating afternoon. When you are playing the top sides, like when we play Luton next week, you need to be at your best and 100 percent and hope they are not quite at it.

"They weren't at their best today and that is the disappointing thing and as players we have to take responsibly for that. If we were at our best we would have had a chance.

"We matched them for 40 minutes and there was nothing between the teams. Then we go in at half-time 2-0 down.

"It comes under game management. The gaffer is big on that and we need to put that into practice.

"The top teams break the game up and play in the right areas. We need to get the lead and the first goal is something we need more of.

"The goal before the break changes the team-talk. Nobody wants to be 2-0 down against a team as good as Wycombe,” he added.

"The second half felt like a dead game and that is not acceptable. We are 2-0 down but we have seen they have conceded goals.

"To come out in the second half and not put them under enough pressure is disappointing.

"It takes one spark but we never really got that moment. As players we need do better. Collectively and individually we weren't good enough today."

"We are frustrated and disappointed, but there is no better game to bounce back in then Luton.

“People will laugh, but we have got that in us. Anything can happen in this league, that is why we are disappointed today, but next week is another game."
