Iconic pop group Steps are coming to the home of the Robins this summer – and now the band are pledging their support to help a brave Cheltenham girl walk independently for the first time!
Four-year-old Lilac Jackson has captured the hearts of people across Gloucestershire with the Lilac’s Little Legs campaign launched to fundraise to give her a life-changing operation.
Lilac’s parents Leila and Barry, from Bishop’s Cleeve, have been raising money to fund a selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) operation - a procedure not provided for free on the NHS - which would allow Lilac to walk again.
And now pop stars Steps have heard their story and vowed to play their part by allowing the Lilac’s Little Legs to fundraise at the summer concert at the LCI Rail Stadium.
Steps, Blue and Saara Aalto will all appear in Cheltenham on Saturday, May 26 – and concert-goers will be able to support Lilac’s Little Legs with a bucket collection taking place around the stadium!
The band have also arranged a special meet and greet with Lilac and her family to give them all a special day out.
Lilac’s mother, Leila Jackson, said: “Lilac’s Little Legs is so excited to be returning to the LCI Rail Stadium for the Steps concert.
“As massive fans this is an amazing opportunity to continue raising awareness for our cause.”
John Finnigan, Commercial Manager at Cheltenham Town, added: “We were delighted to welcome Lilac to a recent game at the LCI Rail Stadium, when she was our special mascot to help raise awareness and funds.
“As a club we were determined to continue our support for Lilac’s Little Legs so we’re absolutely thrilled that Steps have now chosen to support the family and raise more crucial funds at the big summer concert.
“We hope that pop fans right across Gloucestershire will come along to the concert and enjoy watching Steps, Blue and Saara Aalto while donating to such a worthwhile cause at the same time.”
