Boyle hungry for clean sheets and goals

22 February 2018

Defender Will Boyle admits he is hungry for both clean sheets and more league goals this season – or else he risks forking out for a slap up end of season meal!

Boyle needs little introduction to Luton Town having scored in the last two games with the Hatters.

The Garforth-born centre half grabbed a dramatic injury time equaliser when the two sides met at then LCI Rail Stadium in November.

The 22-year-old defender is determined to continue his own impressive form when the sides meet at Kenilworth Road on Saturday and keep the free-scoring league leaders at bay.

But Boyle added he also has another big reason to try and add to his three league goals at the other end of the field!

“Hopefully I can keep the goals coming because I’ve had a little fun bet with girlfriend’s dad that if I get five he will pay for a meal at a tapas place we like,” smiled Boyle.

“If I don’t then I have to pay for the four of us – so it would be an expensive night!

“Luton have scored 72 league goals which is outrageous, they have got goals from all over the pitch,” admitted Boyle.

“They have got front men who are prolific, which is vital. If your talisman isn’t scoring then you can struggle.

“They are flying and I can’t imagine many people outside of this building, apart from hopefully some of our fans, will expect us to go there and get a result.

“I can’t imagine many people will back us on the coupon, but hopefully we can be coupon busters again this week.

“You have got to go there and keep it tight. Hopefully get to halftime and stay in the game.

“They can be rampant and if they do open you up, and you are chasing the game, you can be vulnerable.

“It’s important we go there and play too, show what we are about. Especially after last week when we had a disappointing performance.

“We want to put that right and there is no better opportunity than at the top of the league.”
