Reaction: Varney on Forest Green draw

30 December 2018

After coming off the bench to help the Robins fight back to earn a 2-2 draw in Saturday's home clash with Forest Green, Luke Varney was happy to play his part in helping his side earn a point at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

The experienced hit man struck Michael Duff's charges first of two goals, as the Robins recovered from being two goals down to earn a point in front of a crowd of over 5,000.

Varney's goal kick-started the comeback and he was pleased with the impact it had on the game.

"To get a goal I think it gave us a bit of momentum and if I'm being honest I think we finished the game quite well," he said when speaking to the media post-match.

"Maybe even if the game had gone on we might have got another one, so I'm delighted on a personal note but to get the result at the end of the day is a bigger thing for us all.

"Momentum is a big thing and we felt we had it. We are a little disappointed we gave away two sloppy goals away and we could have had an even more positive result, but on the overall balance of the game we go home happy."

Saturday's draw was the club's final game of 2018. Next up is a trip to Yeovil Town's Huish Park on New Year's Day.
