The experience at the head of the Robins attack from Luke Varney has been key in the recent upturn in form at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

The former Charlton Athletic forward will no doubt be an important part of the side this weekend when Port Vale are the opponents at Vale Park.

Varney spoke to the media ahead of Saturday’s trip and believes him and his teammates are in a good place to continue making progress in Sky Bet League Two.

He said: “It’s always good to come off the back of a result like that – especially in the manner it came. The two defeats previous to that you might thought would have dented the confidence, but off a good couple of results in the last month or so we feel we’re in a good position to go forward and really get into this period where we are playing games where teams are in and around us – it’s an important period for us and off the back of that late goal it’s going to help us.

“In any league back-to-back wins are very important. We always thought obviously we wanted to get up the league and we’ve had a lot of meetings about the way we could do it. We feel we’ve found a way to achieve that now, we’re all pulling in the right direction, and a lot of work has gone in on the training ground I must admit and it’s starting to pay dividends for sure.”
