Checkatrade Trophy: Third round draw

9 December 2018

The draw for the Checkatrade Trophy third round took place on Saturday in the build up to the club's Sky Bet League Two clash with Grimsby Town.

Michael Duff's side's reward for getting past Newport County on penalty kicks on Tuesday evening is another home tie in the competition.

The Robins have been drawn against either League One outfit Oxford United or Tottenham Hotspur under-21s at the next stage.

That fixture is due to take place the week commencing 7 January 2019 at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium to decide which club will progress to the quarter-final.

Oxford and Tottenham under-21s are yet to have played their second round fixture. They are due to meet at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday 18 December to see which team will travel to Gloucestershire the following month.

The last time the Robins took on Oxford in the same competition was in September 2014 when goals from John Marquis and Koby Arthur sealed a 2-0 win.

Cheltenham have never faced Tottenham's under-21s, though in January 2012 the club did travel to White Hart Lane for an FA Cup third round clash against Spurs' first team. Goals from Jermaine Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Giovanni dos Santos confirmed a win for Tottenham that day.

Ticket and fixture details will be announced here on the club website when the game is confirmed later this month.
