Match Pack: Macclesfield Town

20 August 2018

All the information you need ahead of tomorrow evening's trip to Moss Rose

Head to head:

Moss Rose is a happy hunting ground for the Robins, winning six and drawing two of their 10 visits stretching back to 2000.

Most recently, Gary Johnson's side made their last away trip of the 2015-16 campaign with the National League title sewn up and produced their 13th away success of a glorious campaign, thanks to Dan Holman's first-half strike.

In total the Robins have triumphed in 11 of the previous 19 league encounters between the two sides over 18 years, and are both looking to rediscover the winning formula tomorrow evening.

What they say: Robins boss Gary Johnson

Gary Johnson looked ahead to Tuesday's important League Two encounter at Moss Rose in Monday's press conference.

"You can’t put out what you think their strengths and weaknesses are the day before a game, but they are going to be fighting for their lives, same as us," he said.

"It’s going to be one of those battles with both teams needing to win the game.

"I have not lost faith in my lads and given time they will keep improving, but some people like to give you a bit of time and some don’t as far as the games are concerned."

What they say: Macclesfield Town manager Mark Yates

There will be a familiar face in the opposition dugout after Mark Yates was appointed by the Silkmen this summer.

The former midfielder appeared on 227 occasions for the Robins, scoring 21 goals and helping the club to promotion in 2002.

He spent five years as manager, leading the Robins to a play-off final (2012) and semi-final (2013) but has yet to see his new charges win this term, despite some encouraging displays.

“We could have won that game – just like we could have won the first two," he told the Macclesfield Town website after Saturday's 3-1 defeat by Oldham Athletic.

"We’re not a million miles away. We’re not talking huge gaps, we’re just talking concentration levels."
