Preview: Cambridge V Robins

21 April 2018

Cheltenham Town hit the road for the penultimate time this season in Sky Bet League Two when they travel to the Abbey Stadium to face Cambridge United on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

The Robins will be aiming to bounce back from derby day defeat to Forest Green Rovers last time out as they look to mount a late charge up the table.

Cambridge United won 2-0 last weekend at Stevenage, courtesy of two goals from Barry Corr, and are currently 14th in Sky Bet League Two.

When the two sides met earlier this season at the LCI Rail Stadium in November they battled out a 0-0 draw.

The Opposition:

Interim head coach Joe Dunne expects Uche Ikpeazu to perform if called upon against Cheltenham - despite confirmation this week that the striker has agreed a pre-contract deal with Hearts.

Ikpeazu is the top scorer at Cambridge with 14 goals in all competitions and Dunne insists he will be available when the Robins visit the Abbey Stadium.

"We still pay his wages, he is a Cambridge United player and we will expect him, if selected, to play and give his all for Cambridge United," said Dunne.

"If he plays, he’s part of a team here, he’s part of a team who are, at the moment, energised and no one is bigger than the club. Uche is part of a good group that we love working with every day and if he’s asked to play we expect him to play.

"He’s available for this weekend. If he’s selected, we expect him to play and if he’s not, that’s my decision."

Team News:

Cheltenham Town: Manager Gary Johnson will assess the fitness of midfielder Kevin Dawson after he missed the home clash with Forest Green Rovers.

Cambridge United: Striker Uche Ikpeazu has agreed a pre-contract agreement with Hearts but could still be called upon by boss Joe Dunne. Jabo Ibehre (knee) is not expected to feature again this season and a doubt surrounds the fitness of Liam O’Neil and Barry Corr.

The man in the middle:

Referee Brett Huxtable will take charge of the league clash at the Abbey Stadium. He has taken charge of 36 games this season, giving out 134 yellow cards and seven red cards. He previously took charge of our 3-0 win over Mansfield in September and 5-1 win over Port Vale in February. His assistants are Samuel Ogles, Thomas Harty and fourth official Nicholas Cooper.
