Robins TV: Morrell reflects on his league debut

3 September 2017

New signing Joe Morrell believes new-look Cheltenham showed promise for the future as they were narrowly edged out by Stevenage at the LCI Rail Stadium.

Morrell was signed on loan earlier this week alongside Bristol City team-mates Taylor Moore and Freddie Hinds.

The 20-year-old marked the first league appearance of his career with an impressive all-action display in the heart of midfield for the Robins.

And Morrell – a late call-up for the ill Nigel Atangana – admitted he would happily swap his man-of-the-match award for three points as Cheltenham look to climb up Sky Bet League Two.

“I didn’t have too long to think about it (being called up), and making my football league debut is a big moment for me,” he said.

“I would have preferred it if we won the game, but there was a lot of promise today and for the future.

“I think the performance was there, but we lacked that little bit in the final third.

“It’s nice to get man-of-the match, but as a player you are always going to take three points.”
