REPORT: Yeovil 0-0 Cheltenham

9 September 2017

Cheltenham Town were forced to settle for a point after dominating Yeovil Town in a Sky Bet League Two clash at Huish Park.

The Robins started brightly in Somerset and were the better side in the opening half as striker Mo Eisa saw a low shot cannon off the upright.

Chances continued to flow with Jordan Cranston forcing a fine save from home ‘keeper Artur Krysiak with a rasping drive just before the interval.

Man-of-the-match Krysiak continued to deny visitors in the second period with a series of fine stops before Freddie Hinds saw a late effort hit the side netting as Cheltenham were denied.

Manager Gary Johnson made one change to his starting line-up, with Jamie Grimes returning after his one-match ban to replace Will Boyle.

The game kicked off in teeming rain and it was the visitors who stared the brighter on a slick surface as Eisa collected a cross field ball from Cranston at full pace, but his low effort was saved.

The striker nearly turned provider minutes later as he looked to roll in Carl Winchester after a lightening quick break from a home corner from Cheltenham.

Eisa looked dangerous throughout the half and came closest to breaking the deadlock when he swivelled on the edge of the area and hit the post before Danny Wright dragged the rebound wide.

Jaanai Gordon replaced Danny Wright after 23 minutes and the substitute came close to making an immediate impact as he narrowly missed Joe Morrell’s free kick.

Livewire front man Eisa then showed his electric pace to get in behind, but he was cynically pulled back by home defender Sid Nelson who was duly yellow carded.

The first half ended as it had started with Cheltenham very much on top as Cranston stung the palms of Krysiak with a fizzing drive from 25 yards out.

The momentum continued after the restart as a superb double save from home stopper Krysiak denied Eisa, after he collected Morrell’s clever ball inside the box, and then Gordon, with his dipping strike on the follow up turned over.

Seconds later the resulting corner was met by Harry Pell’s towering header but Eisa, in his last action before being replaced by Hinds, stabbed the ball wide.

Yeovil looked to respond to sustained spell of visiting pressure as Otis Khan crossed for Bevis Mugabi to nod narrowly wide.

Substitute Jerell Sellars again tested the handling of Krysiak, with a stinging drive, before Khan did likewise at the other end to ironic cheers from the home fans as Yeovil registered  a shot on target.

The final action saw Hinds brush off a tackler in injury time, but curled effort over the on-rushing Krysiak just failed to bend enough and found the side-netting.
