Preview: Chesterfield V Cheltenham

29 September 2017

Cheltenham Town hit the road again this weekend as we make the trip to Derbyshire to make Chesterfield in a Sky Bet League Two encounter at the Proact Stadium (kick-off 3pm).

The Robins are flying high after three games undefeated, that culminated in a resounding 3-0 victory over promotion hopefuls Mansfield Town in midweek.

Chesterfield have endured a difficult start to the season, but are set to be buoyed by the appointment of a new manager ahead of kick-off.

The Opposition:

Chesterfield are currently 23rd in Sky Bet League Two after just one win this season, a run that continued in cruel fashion in midweek when they battled back from 2-0 down to level against Yeovil only to concede a late goal to the visitors.

Another busy week at Chesterfield has seen Guy Branston leave by mutual consent ahead of the club preparing to announce a new manager. Branston had been in caretaker charge of the last two Spireites matches following Gary Caldwell’s departure.

Team News:

Cheltenham team news: Manager Gary Johnson hopes to be able to field much of the side that defeated Mansfield in midweek with no new injury concerns. Jaanai Gordon and Jordon Forster remain long-term injury casualties.

Chesterfield team news: Chesterfield will be unable to call upon Bradley Barry, who is suspended, while fellow defender Zak Jules was carried off on a stretcher against Yeovil in midweek and the club are still assessing the severity of his injury.

The man in the middle:

Referee Ben Toner – who has handed out 18 yellow cards and one red card in five games officiated this season - will take charge of the league game at the Proact Stadium. He will be assisted by Ian Dudley, Lee Freeman and fourth official Stephen Wade.
