We've set the standard to reach - Boss

26 September 2017

Delighted manager Gary Johnson praised his Cheltenham Town side as they stormed to a convincing 3-0 victory over Mansfield Town in a thrilling Sky Bet League Two clash at the LCI Rail Stadium.

Brian Graham and Joe Morrell both scored their first goals for the Robins in the second half before Danny Wright capped a fine attacking display with a late third.

Cheltenham could had added even more with Dan O’Shaughnessy and Harry Pell also hitting the post.

And Johnson was thrilled as his side – who had not beaten the Stags at home since 2004 – went three games undefeated in convincing style.

“It was a great performance,” said Johnson. “I have just told the players, when a manager puts a group of boys together he wants to see what his vision was.

“It’s taken us ten games to build it; now they can go out and have confidence in themselves and each other. That is the standard we have got to reach.

“We were up against a very uncompromising team in Mansfield, but in the end we demoralised them in the second half.

“I told the players at half-time it would be a battle second half,” he added. “But if we showed our intent to win the game, and relentlessness, they have got to fade.

“I was really pleased for Brian Graham scoring too. He has been getting into dangerous areas in the last few games.

“We could have had more, but we’ve all enjoyed that. I am proud of them and it was a fine performance.”
