Home support will lift Robins - Boss

15 September 2017

Manager Gary Johnson is looking forward to returning home in the league - and believes fans can play a big part in helping the Robins return to winning ways.

Cheltenham welcome Colchester United to the LCI Rail Stadium on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

Ahead of the clash, Johnson has thanked the away support that backed his team so well in the Sky Bet League Two clashes at Newport County and Yeovil Town.

And he believes a passionate home support can now play their part in helping his team turn encouraging performances into points.

"The boys are pretty bullish about their performances, but to win games you have got to put the ball in the back of the net," he said. "It's not just strikers that have got to do that.

"As far as our play is concerned over the last two or three games, it is encouraging. Opposition teams are complimentary about us and how we are playing - but that doesn't help when you have just lost.

"I've had this situation before, where you have dictated games but not scored goals. I've had great strikers over the years you have had spells when they are not scoring. We just keep working hard.

"It is up to us to make sure the fans who are behind you, not just winning but losing as well, stay behind you," he added.

"When it does turn around, which it will, you give credit to those that stayed with you.

"Our away support has been great over the last two games and our home support is going to be vital for the confidence of the boys that need that little jab of confidence. They can play a major part in our next goal."
