Boss pleased with positive Reserves performance

Manager Gary Johnson praised a ‘very good performance’ as Cheltenham Town Reserves launched the new Central League season with an impressive 5-1 victory over Bristol Rovers Development.

Dan Holman grabbed a brace of goals while Academy product George Lloyd was also among the scorers at the home of Yate Town FC to the delight of a watching Johnson.

“It was a fine performance,” he said. “Bristol Rovers put their Under-21 boys out and it was a very competitive game. All the youngsters did well and the pros that I needed to show a little bit did that.

“Everyone to a man played their part in a very good performance with some great goals. The youngsters didn’t let themselves down or the team.

“I would like to think they all want to be involved against Yeovil and that is how you know – when they play like that today,” he added.

“Dan Holman scored two fantastic goals and worked very hard.

“There are a few players who have surpassed where we thought they might be at this time so we are pleased with what we are seeing.”
