Wright: We showed our true character in win

21 October 2017

Goalscorer Danny Wright insisted Cheltenham had shown their true character as they battled to a crucial 1-0 win over Lincoln City in Sky Bet League Two.

In difficult conditions, as the LCI Rail was battered by high winds and rain, Wright gave the Robins a half-time lead with his third goal in four games on home soil.

The second half saw Cheltenham dig deep to repel wave after wave of Lincoln attacks as the visitors used the strong wind behind them.

And Wright was delighted to see the reaction from his team-mates as they bounced back from the midweek defeat to Grimsby in style.

“We showed what we are all about and everyone put in a great shift,” said Wright.

“We got our rewards with some great defending at the end under pressure. It’ a great result for us.

“We had a few chances in the first half and could have maybe got two.

“Our backs were against the wall at times in the second half, but we still had some good breaks and maybe could have got a goal or two more.

“When they talked about Storm Brian I thought they meant the weather – but Brian has done a great shift with me up top,” he laughed.

“The weather conditions weren’t ideal. But we defended well and the clean sheet shows that. After the last few games it is great to show what we are about.

“It’s nice to score goals, but as long as we are performing it doesn’t matter who gets them. Hopefully I can keep them going.”
