Midfielder Morrell given Wales U21 call-up

2 October 2017

Manager Gary Johnson has revealed midfielder Joe Morrell will miss the Checkatrade Trophy clash with Forest Green Rovers after winning a call-up from Wales Under-21s.

Morrell has been called into Robert Page’s squad as Wales prepare to face Liechtenstein in a UEFA European Championship Qualifier.

Wales travel to Liechtenstein on Thursday (October 5) as they look to returning to winning ways.

Page’s side kicked off the campaign with a superb 3-0 victory over Switzerland last month before a 2-0 defeat against Portugal four days later.

Manager Gary Johnson said: “Joe is doing really well and it’s a feather in your cap if you get selected for your international team. We wish him every success.

“He’s on back on Friday so we look forward to seeing him in time and healthy for Swindon.”

Morrell thanked the Robins after winning his call-up saying: “I’m delighted and it caps a great month for me with my Football League debut, first goal and now first call-up to the Under-21s.

“I am indebted to Cheltenham for this selection. The club has given me a chance to play regular football and I’ve really enjoyed my time here.

“I’m looking forward to the game and hope to be involved before coming back for the big Swindon clash.”
