Milton pleased to extend Central League winning run

10 October 2017

ssistant Manager Russell Milton was pleased to see Cheltenham Town Reserves claim a 3-2 win over AFC Bournemouth U21s and maintain an unbeaten start to the new Central League campaign.

Defensive trio Will Boyle, Daniel O’Shaughnessy and Matt Bower grabbed the goals to cancel out two strikes from Bournemouth forward Callum Wilson.

And Milton was pleased to see an impressive and composed display against the Cherries as the home side backed up a 5-1 win in the opening round over Bristol Rovers.

“It’s a good result against Premier League outfit,” he said. “Callum Wilson has shown his class a couple of times for them, but overall I was pleased with the work rate shown by us.

“The lads are all out there for different reasons. Some for fitness, form and coming back from injury, some young lads stepping up and a couple of trialists too. Considering there was a real mixture, I felt we blended together well.

“I was pleased for Rhys (Lovett) in goal too. He played well and was very assured. Rhys commanded the back line and is coming on well for us.

“Two games in and two wins, which is nice because it shows you have got people in the background that can hopefully progress and contribute to the first team.

“A number have already and we are looking for a few more to step up in time. We’ve beaten a good Bristol Rovers side and now a Bournemouth side that played some good football.”
